Company history at a glance:
- Co-founded in 1988 by Rakesh Gupta, who knew that India offered a large English speaking workforce with technical expertise and competitive wages.
- Initially called Techbooks, with a focus on reprinting scientific, technical, and medical (STM) books and journals.
- Expanded to offer business process outsourcing (BPO) of Content Transformation services for organizations of all kinds, with project management offices worldwide and production facilities in India.
- Grew by building business with current clients, gaining new clients, and acquiring companies—for example, in the area of litigation support.
- Changed name in 2007—to Aptara—in reflection of the company’s wide range of clients in business and government.
